School of the Holy ChildRye, New York
This school expansion serves as the new heart of a suburban girls' school, grades 5 through 12. The design creates a new entry, library, classrooms, and administrative offices within the prior existing footprint of the school. The architecture forms a garden courtyard between the original historic structure of the school and the new, and opens up views to the surrounding landscape. The integration of natural materials and minimalist detail results in a lightness and texture that complements the adjoining early 20th Century mansion.
