Clean energy production, biodiversity, and people-friendly program space

Should rooftops in NYC be used for people, plants, or solar panels?

All three are part of our design for Congregation Rodeph Sholom, a historic 1930 synagogue on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. The new 6th-floor terrace and playground host outdoor programs, while the uppermost roof level is planted with greenery beneath newly installed solar panels.

Known as an “integrated green roof,” the sustainable system combines clean energy production and biodiversity. Studies have found that rooftop vegetation makes solar arrays more efficient.
