MBB’s office was closed for a week during and after Hurricane Sandy. The devastation along the coast brought us to revisit the issue of emergency housing in the aftermath of such a storm. When Katrina hit New Orleans the City of New York’s Office of Emergency Management sponsored a competition entitled “What if NYC…”. Our winning entry envisioned Community Provisional Residences (CPR) which is temporary housing in a box that can be individually deployed or stacked in a multi-family configuration. The CPR unit is designed to be assembled by two people in six hours and can be disassembled and redeployed to new disaster locations.
