Congregation Rodeph Sholom

Working closely with Congregation Rodeph Sholom’s clergy and congregation, MBB designed a series of renovations at the historic 1930 synagogue building including gracious new lobby entrances with contemporary ceiling vaults, a new clergy suite, an early engagement program and religious school, and a multi-purpose worship and event space.
Custom mosaics flanking the entrance to the main sanctuary celebrate the diversity and strong community of the synagogue. New lighting, equipment and acoustics are screened from view. MBB worked with the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to gain approval for new, high-performance windows and secure entry doors.
New multi-generational spaces on the 5th floor include a flexible chapel and event space adjoined by a contemporary lobby. The 6th floor roof terrace — constructed simultaneously with energy performance-enhancing roof upgrades — provides a flexible gathering space overlooking Manhattan. An integrated solar green roof generates electricity while insulating the new roof.
